M2 has been able to bounce a ball before she could even walk. She would stand and bounce along with the ball and eventually topple over. To watch her on the basketball court is fun. She likes the challenge.
For the past two years, she has played in an intramural league at her elementary school. It's a very touchy feely league--no stealing, for instance--and had practice for a half an hour prior to the weekly game. That was it and it worked just fine.
Except, Maggie was frustrated. She wanted to play "real basketball."
So, this year, we investigated a step up program. I'm not sure I'm ready for this!
The good thing is, I had a great month with Scentsy in September and we decided to use that commission to 'clean up' lots of activity fees and other things for M1 and 2 before we have to start tossing thousands of dollars into the black hole again.
We did two night of "tryouts" last week. No one is being cut in 3rd grade, but they want to see the girls' abilities and place them on an evenly matched team. Saturday, while my husband is gone at drill, I am attending a parent's meeting with her, ordering her uniform and then sticking around for the kids' pool party they are having for all the girls. I need to get my act together so I can meet other moms and forge some new friendships--I find this tough as I don't get competitive where my kids are concerned. But...I know a majority of these women do. Sigh.
I'm looking forward to it, though, even though there will be practice twice a week and games once a week. It will be okay and it's time to get back out there--we need to put ourselves into the public again rather than being hermits and the conspicuous family we've been for the past couple of years. I love doing things with the girls and I love being able to spend time with them and actually be present.
Fingers crossed that when the rosters go up, M2 is on a team with at least one of the little girls she knows. That will make it more fun for her.
