Not only is fall upon us, but so is basketball season. M1 is all signed up and her first game is today. She had a scrimmage last night. I must say, I'm WAY more mature than I was even a year or two ago. I was sitting on the floor of the gym last night (no bleachers pulled down) when a family wandered over and sat down next to me. I try not to be prejudiced against the typical families that live in and around the school my kids now attend. However, this family was cookie cutter. In a nutshell--designer dress (and dad in VERY effeminate shoes), flashy jewelry, shiny phone, gourmet food magazine to read and a general inability to engage the brain.
I mean, if you've plopped yourself down next to a woman you do NOT recognize, would you (in your wildest imagination) think it's prudent to comment on the 'new girl' on the team. Perhaps it might occur to you that if you don't know the 'new girl' that you, also, do not know the new girl's mother? Mm yeah. I never moved, commented or anything the entire time which was very hard, especially when M1 fought for a ball and went down HARD on her knees. I didn't rush over because I didn't want to embarrass her and her coach knows me--so if it had been serious and needing my attention, I was right there.
And, this was totally worth it when, at the end of the scrimmage, I stood up, collected my things and my daughter and made very pointed eye contact with bleachy blond.
I relayed this to Hubs via IM last night. His response?
tap tap tap, um yeah that is my daughter and i may have PTSD so unless you want me to go batshit crazy you might wanna shut your piehole
He cracks me up. The woman is, apparently, just one of those people--not satisfied with even her own daughter's performance by the end. They are in 5th grade. Get a grip.
M2 has received information about an intramural basketball league for the little kids (preschool to 4th grade). Their practices are right before their games and their games are on Saturdays or Sundays. So, you know once I sign her up, that all her games will coincide with M1's and they will not be at the same place. Story of my life. But, she wants to play so we'll figure it out.
I need to get around and ready to roll. Lots of time in the car today. Not looking forward to all the running. To M1's game then taking her to her dad's then M2 to a friend's...I'm supposed to be cleaning.
UPDATE: Anyone who may have doubted/wondered about the "new girl's" skillz had that all cleared up for them today when M1 played like a champ. She stole the ball a few times, threw an inbound pass that was a direct assist to two of her team's 18 points, and forced a few turnovers. She rocked.
Ha, your hubs sounds just like mine! No wonder he's mah boyfriend. I love how protective they get.
Congrats on keeping your cool...
