It is so gorgeous today! The A/C is off. The windows are open. I'm blogging on the front porch while M2 rides her bike on the sidewalk. I want to take it easy today before this crazy, pre-Disney week kicks off with a bang.
Yesterday, we had great weather too. Thank goodness for that because we had birthday party goers who were very excited to play mini golf--some for the first time.
I was lucky to have a partner in crime for the day. With Hubs at AT, this birthday party could have been a very panic-inducing experience. But, with friend and fellow blogger, Sarah, on board, it was fine. She helped with pre-party prep, schlepped bags to and fro during and after the party and helped other kids avoid expensive emergency dentistry when one of M2's school friends became a bit overzealous with his golf swing. There was no distinguishing "putting" from "driving" for this kid.
M2 had two boys and two girls show up for her party. M1 invited a friend her own age to join in too. One of the boys who came the party were accompanied by his parents and his twin, two-year-old sisters so we invited the girls and his parents to join us and the other parents in the party room for pizza and cake. The little girls enjoyed a few holes of golf and their dad was very psyched about their purple, tie-dyed t-shirts at the end of the day. There were just enough kids and just enough time spent at each activity that no one became bored or whiney--not even the adults.
Before pizza, the kids were given a game card to use in the arcade. Skee-ball was one of the games the kids tried. One of the girls, a very quiet and diminuitive kiddo, rolled her first ball, but not hard enough. It rolled back to her. She tried it again. It rolled back a second time. Before her dad could stop her, she picked up the ball and chucked it, like a baseball, at the machine's openings. The chicken wire spread across the game's prize openings blocked the ball which was deflected to the side. Her dad made an almost diving catch and disaster was averted. It cracked me up!
M2 received some pretty sweet presents including a Spirograph! I cannot WAIT to bust that one out later today. I think she might just like it as much as I know I will. Her best friend's dad said that they had a spirograph for the driveway that uses sidewalk chalk! Now THAT would be something, wouldn't it?!
The kids did great at mini golf. They liked being able to pick their own choice of golf ball color. They liked the different challenges of each hole. They were very tenacious. Even though it was super sunny, there was a nice breeze blowing the entire day so I didn't notice anyone breaking a sweat.
I think even the parents had a good time.
After the party, M1 went with her friend to play for a bit before her dad picked her up. M2, Sarah and I came home, hung out a bit and then went for a nice dinner at a little Italian place. Yum!
We had a great time with Sarah and Mr. Charlie. We look forward to them stopping by again very soon!
I am glad it went off without a hitch, glad you had HELP!!
You both look terrrific

I love the story about the girl chucking the ball instead of rolling it for a third time! I was laughing hysterically as I read that.
You both look great. And I dig your Vera Bradley.

Thanks, ladies.
Erin, I still giggle when I think of that tiny little wisp of a thing winging that ball at the machine. Serves it right!!
I'm a wee bit addicted to the Vera, especially after going to the outlet sale this year & finding bargains galore!
