My externship completed, I now must set forth and seek employment...for reals. Right now, however, all the job announcements coming out regarding Career Fairs, etc. are for "Diversity Fairs." And, by diversity, I doubt they mean old, white ladies. They might, though, and since most involve free cocktail receptions, it might be worth the drive to check them out. I mean, in some cases, I may be one of the only individuals in the room old enough to actually handle a cocktail responsibly and know that 'cocktail' doesn't mean a six-pack of Beast or a bottle of Boone's Farm.
With all my free time, I may just go plunk myself in a chair at Career Services and not leave until I have gainful employment. And, when I mean gainful employment, I mean doing work and getting PAID. Unlike my first (and last) "paying" legal job where the lawyer hired me during a meeting unrelated to employment, gave me an assignment which I completed EARLY, and then didn't pay me or reply to any of my attempts to contact him. Normally, you would think an attorney would avoid this type of sketchy behavior especially since, if I had turned down other employment and relied on his offer to my detriment, I would have a case of promissory estoppel. I, however, am older and a wee bit wiser than I let on and I, my friends, look forward to meeting said individual in court someday and kicking. his. butt.
I have some ideas of where I'd like to seek employment and with a respected federal judge's law clerk willing to say nice things about me if someone calls and a respected federal judge whom I like and who likes me, certainly someone will give me a shot, yes? I want to find something now so I'm not stressed next semester staring down graduation and the bar without something in my sights.
In other news, after finally charging my iPod, I can listen to Beastie Boys' Licensed to Ill in its glorious entirety. Man. Those were the good old days. Eighth grade, I believe. But, as with all things this phenomenal, the Beastie Boys are timeless.
Annie is asleep at my feet. A bit better, but still not herself. She's been coming with me in the afternoons to pick up the girls. She loves to go through the drive-through at Tim Horton's. I always get her an ice water which she drinks from the cup. She makes me hold the cup up for her, though, since she's figured out sniffing things in the cup holder can get her into trouble because it doesn't always belong to her! I think she's getting used to her happy pills because rather than them knocking her out for hours, she snaps back much faster than when she began taking them earlier this week. I still have hope these will help her become the snappy-eyed, fun-loving dog she was before Oscar died. We've also been in contact with some golden retriever groups to see what kind of resources are available for families like ours who need dog playdates.
Big to-do list today...always the case, right?!? And, it's supposed to start raining any moment!
I know you will be glad when law school is finished. Sure wish you lived down this way, as we have just had an opening for a law clerk in the Bankruptcy Court. Also our Bankruptcy clerk and her deputy are both retiring at the end of the year, and I was looking at the pay for her job. Geez, I need to apply with a salary almost at 194,000.00 just for the clerk. I would have never thought that it would pay that kind of money.
Good Luck with the job hunting, not that you need any luck with your smarts though.
Glad that Annie is doing a little better.

Maybe I should just plan to move down there? I mean, between your company, your cooking, clippings from your garden AND a big paycheck...a big move is looking better all the time!

Now that is a wonderful plan. The big brown even has a large break hub here in the city.
