Updates below.
Chances are, unless you've been tooling around the internet in my absence, you haven't heard about the latest reason the Islamic fascists are claiming the need for jihad. It wouldn't be because you aren't paying attention either. It's because the Spiral of Silence surrounding the uber-sensitive Islamic jihad crowd has become ever more dense. But, we're for full disclosure here so, without futher adieu: The Islamofascist Flavor-of-the-Month (drumroll, please)...
is Pope Benedict XIV.
Yes, THAT Pope...THE Pope.
Michelle Malkin offers a wonderfully comprehensive backgrounder on this latest flap. And, this morning, she posted a very disturbing look at what passes for discourse on websites whose clientele are the pro-jihadi, let's behead everyone types.
So now, not only can you not draw a caricature of Mohammad, but you are not permitted to quote 14th century sentiments in historically based speeches? Give me a BREAK!
We have established previously that I am not Catholic. But, the last time I checked, Catholics pray to the same God I do. So, having someone call my personal savior a "monkey on a cross" really doesn't go far in making me change my impression on what should be done to eradicate the earth of the problem at hand.
I think it's also possible to draw a bright line between Christians and radical Muslims (and the gap between Muslims and radical Muslims is becoming harder for me to appreciate) on this point: I am not going to wage a crusade in the name of God in which I begin indiscriminately taking out innocent people. I will save all that bottled up angst for when this surely arrives on my doorstep someday. When that occurs, gentle readers, all bets will most assuredly be off.
When you read what the Pope actually said in his address (as recalled by a theology student in Michelle Malkin's first post) you understand that Islam has no cogent response. The student writes, "God cannot be God if he is unreasonable" and I would suggest that making your deity into something that encourages and responds to the basest of human shortcomings does not a God make. Frankly, no matter how "radical" a Christian gets, he or she has NOTHING on radical Islam no matter what Rosie O'Donnell says.
I'm not sure what is scarier. What Islamofascists have in store for the rest of the world or idiotic carpers who refuse to get it. Perhaps Rosie doesn't remember what Islam thinks should happen to her fellow lesbians.
Such a loving and peaceful group of folks, don't ya think?
Update: It appears the Pope is now being blamed for the death of an Italian nun, reportedly in her seventies and working at a Somali hospital, who was shot in the back by gunmen apparently upset by what the Pope said. And, if we remember correctly from yesterday, the Pope was making an address in which he QUOTED a Byzantine emperor. It doesn't matter, though, according to some Muslim muckity-muck since both the Pope and the emperor he quoted are "ignorant of Islam and its noble prophet."
Really? Because it seems to me that the Pope and this emperor had it pretty well pegged and were even a little too polite for my taste in calling it as it is. And, if it weren't so damn tragic, it would be laughable that the so-called 'moderates' in this group wag their finger and admonish the world at large for not believing them when they say that the behavior of the jihadis is an anamoly. I suppose since it works for around 50% of the US population to tow that company line, the Muslim mouthpieces will keep up the schtick.
For me, though, I give no credibility to a group like this, nor do I have any respect for the coddling and abetting of murder. I will personally deliver a verbal beat-down to anyone I hear in the coming days who attempts to justify the cold-blooded, cowardly murder of an elderly NUN.
Melinda, most excellent post. Now, I know you must be feeling some level of frustration and anger, so...go on over to FreeRepublic
