Can't concentrate on much today. Working on grading final exams and packing up my office. The whole office thing should be less overwhelming than I thought given two factors. First, the shredder is my friend and second, I'm taking what's mine and what I need and the rest will remain where it is. NOT going to trouble myself with it. NOT that I'm bitter or anything.
Voted in our primary election today. Didn't know I would be called upon to explain to a moronic woman in front of me that the poll worker was not discriminating against her by asking her to declare her party, but that it was NECESSARY as you only are selecting those your party will put on the ballot in November...do you think she heard me snort when she told the poll worker, "Oh...well then, I'm a Democrat." Of course you are.
P.S. Mike DeWine, I did not vote for you today. You pissed me off one too many times. Joining the Gang of 14 and not committing to upholding our laws and resisting the rush to illegal alien amnesty ruined your chances of earning my vote. If you are put through (as I'm sure you will be), I hope it is by the skin of your teeth so you realize you need to straighten up!
For your reading pleasure, a potpourri of links and then, some closing commentary from your humble blogstress:
Michelle Malkin offers you a view of the May 1 protests that did not make the sanitized reports of your evening news.
If you are looking for a homemade gift to show someone you care, check out my friend Jodi's blankets. Jodi's mom is helping her produce these fun and functional flannels to add money to son, Perry's, tuition coffers. The boy has an awesome opportunity to attend a school geared specifically toward his needs and has earned a scholarship. Jodi's working the blanket angle to help take care of the rest.
Some Soldiers' Mom resides in a border state. She pulled no punches yesterday when she presented her thoughts on the immigration issues.
Michael Fay, fellow milblogging conference attendee, has a great blog. If you haven't checked it yet, you need to do so today. Fay is one of two combat artists for the US Marine Corps. His work and his reflections on it are very moving.
Shelby Steele has a thought-provoking and downright interesting piece in the Wall Street Journal's Opinion section. Are you suffering from White Guilt?
On the personal side, I have all but 2 books necessary to embark on my law school journey. School starts in a couple weeks, but I have two assignments already. I also know my first exam will be the second Friday in June (at least I HOPE this is my first midterm!) and be worth 15% of my grade...it doesn't make me feel any better to know it only has one question either.
I also had a goofy dream the night before I left for DC a couple weeks ago.
Have you seen the AG Edwards' commercials where the people are taking care of their nest eggs? They show one guy giving his a bath, another returns to his old office to retrieve his from the credenza and yet another receives a road-weary nest egg at his home when the mail carrier delivers it to him. I think, given the dream I had, that these have made an impact on me!
In my dream, I am working in my everyday job wearing a necklace with a nest egg on it. Seriously. A point comes in the dream (and I knew why then; should have written it down!) where I have the choice to either keep my necklace or leave it, and my office, behind. I have serious reservations about turning in my nest egg (I think this stems from the anxiety attacks I have over cleaning off my 10-year collection of keys from my ring) later in the dream, but I take it off, hand it to the office staff and turn only to be handed a more impressive egg dangling from another necklace.
I honestly woke feeling as if my brain had finally caught up with the times and that I had made at least a mental transition to my new position as law student.
Glad my mind appears ready to go...this could be a bumpy ride!
Dude thanks for the props. My mother thanks you as well when all the orders come flying in and she is no longer allowed to sleep since she'll be sewing. I may have to oil up my own machine and pitch in, and hope my stitches are straight! Thanks you are awesome.
