We sometimes quote Forrest Gump in our household more than a family should.
However, one of the most interesting things military family members may want to eventually remember and share are the places they have been--both the locations of deployed loved ones as well as the different duty stations of the family.
Plenty of scrapbook designers are eager to help you design perfect pages to track your own map.
From paper to stickers to other embellishments, many scrapbooking companies have lines featuring a travel or location theme. By reframing the traditional uses for these projects (documenting a domestic or international vacation), military families can transform some layouts and put their family history into context.
You can find paper that is specific to a region of the United States, like this set featuring a Southwest theme. Or, you may want to center your layout even more specifically by
concentrating your efforts on a certain State--like Texas or Alaska.
And, if you really want to narrow it down, you can always create pages based upon your involvement with a certain city. You could find paper and other embellishments to allow you to personalize even the most routine and ordinary photos of your surroundings. Those I know who have been stationed overseas always like to have photos of their home away from home--either the front door, or a favorite window or garden area, to look back on fondly after their return to the States.
If your family makes a game of visiting lots of States or if you travel through lots of states during moves, you may want to document those visits with a patterned paper featuring a map or two.
Whatever you choose to do, you can't go wrong. By documenting your life story in your scrapbook albums and putting it within the context of the areas in the world in which you've lived, you're creating a richer heritage for those who enjoy your albums in generations to come.
