Nothing like a threatened snowstorm to bring life to a screeching halt. You'd think this isn't the Midwest. You'd think we're in the deep South where they never see the white stuff the way these newscasters are working overtime trying to gin up fear and despair. I lived through and vividly remember the Blizzard of '78 (suh-weet igloo building occurred) and this snow will have NOTHING on that. Heck, even Christmas of '04 gave us 19" in one swoop. This is definitely not that.
At least the kids had school today and I could still keep my appointment with a bar exam taker who needs some one-on-one time. I was uber organized today which scares me. I feel like I should do a head count just to be sure everyone who is supposed to be here is actually here. I dropped the girls at school and hit the Wal-Mart (saved almost $12 in coupons!) then came home, showered, and made it to my meeting 30 minutes away by 10:30 a.m. That's pretty good timing.
When I returned from tutoring, I had time to finish a mil-doc pack for my husband. Even though I'm a bit outside the mail stop window, I don't care. He'll still get it and he might just get it in time for his Valentine's Day card to be punctual. By the time he's home, we'll be closing in our 8th anniversary. Amazing.
I made linguini and meatballs for our dinner tonight and M1 said it looked so pretty that she thought it looked like she'd ordered it at a restaurant. And, she said it tasted very good. Bonus! I can't honestly say what M2 had for dinner...maybe I'm not as organized as I thought?
M2 has an intramural game scheduled for tomorrow. I would think it will be canceled. I should hope so. I don't feel like digging the truck out and maneuvering it across town for a 75-minute activity. I'm a crab. What else is new?
Totally rethinking my wise decision to have some pinot noir tonight. Sure. It's Friday. We aren't going anywhere. I had Italian food for dinner. However, I didn't think to invest my coupon savings in a replacement bottle of wine. So, come Monday, when the court date comes, I may find myself drowning my sorrows in fizzy water or Capri Sun. Or straight Maker's and that stuff BURNS when not used properly. I have my annual physical (rescheduled from when I forgot it!) on Monday too...I really hope I'm not indisposed when that call comes from the adoption agency. Because, if you think I would not answer that phone when the doctor is busy doing whatever it is they do down there, you don't know me (or my doc) very well. He's a hoot and a half. I love him. At my 6-week check-up with M1, she started BAWLING right when all that junk was commencing. He told me to go ahead and nurse her, he could do his job anyway. He's a pro.
One thing that I have NOT been organized on (speaking of Ethiopia) is my sponsor child, E. I need to make sure my sponsorship account is current and that I send her some goodies soon. I realized she is in Addis Ababa. I will be in Addis Ababa. How hard would it be to see her one day? Probably not hard at all. I would love that. To be able to give her a hug in person, tell her how proud of her I am, to tell her we are here for her as long as she needs--just stay in school, learn a way to make a way and then go make it. Don't worry, though, no matter how tempting, I promise not to fold her up, stick her in my purse and bring her home...unless that's legal? Hoping someday she wants to come to the States to study; she'd have a place at our table any time.
Speaking of things legal...I went 8 for 8 on my uncontested (non con) divorces, even with a defendant showing up with a potential contest. Smooth. Like butter. Luckily, I appeared before a very nice magistrate and her VERY nice court reporter. Add to that a sweet bailiff and a wonderfully competent receptionist and I made a bunch of new friends at the courthouse. I made sure to go and thank each one before I left...never know when I might be back. Soon I hope. I think I'd make a great practicing attorney. I have 8 satisfied clients anyway. That's pretty good.
I cannot remember the last time I heard my husband's voice. IM'ing is not the same. But, as agitated as I am about it, it's likely been 4 days. That's my limit. I am OVER this deployment, kids. OVER it. I did find some super cute shirts for the girls to wear to the welcome home ceremony.
I'm sad I'll only be ordering 2 instead of 3, but I'll get over it if I never have to order shirts like this again.
I liked the saying on another shirt "Move it or lose it! I'm here to pick up my Daddy!" but I like the design on this one so much better.
The lettering and the stars are really cute.
The girls liked them.
I couldn't convince them to let me buy them matchy poo poo outfits from Osh Kosh like I did when Daddy came home for overseas last time. Ungrateful kids anyway. I even said I'd pop for the matching socks and hair bobs.
No takers. What is WRONG with these girls?!

I hope and pray that you get good news today.

The weather hype is out of hand. January 2005 was far worse than 2010 for me but I didn't hear any alarmist warnings back then.
What does "mil-doc" mean? I'm amazed that he might get your package by Valentine's Day. I always wonder about what military mail was like during WWII.

Do they have a shirt that says "Move it or lose it! I'm here to pick up my daughter!" ;)

@ Amritas--there is a new packaging option at the post office. It's specifically for mailing documents or magazines, etc. to deployed servicemembers. I think the USPS did it to help people unfamiliar with the APO addressing b/c the front is all set up with a fill in the blank mailing label.
@ Code Monkey--it's work a look!! They might! Cafe Press has a lot of stuff for military families & if not, you can design your own at CustomizedGirl.com VERY high quality and super reasonable prices!
