We accepted an invitation to Euchre Night at a friend's and had a wonderful time last night. This group of people is fun, even when only parts and pieces of the group can get together. Last night, it was an entire gang and I don't think we could have had more fun (legally). A full spread of bring-and-share snacks plus help-yourself-drinks and an official scoreboard kept things fun and moving along nicely. It was the perfect way to round out the end of a not so stellar year and to put the right focus on the introduction into 2009.
I'm in the office today. Supposedly, we're working half a day. I'm in the middle of a time-sensitive appeal, though, so I will be here until I'm told to leave. I'm dressed uber casually today because I honestly thought I would be the only one of three people here. It's close on the numbers, but I could have worn dress shoes at least...oh, well. I'm not planning on wandering around too much today.
Thank goodness Tim Horton's was open today...needed that coffee like you cannot believe!
The printer at home has been working overtime! I'm printing out holiday letters (I swear I'm mailing my cards before Monday!) and adoption paperwork. Hubs is already stressed over having to write his autobiographical statement. I sense that there will be some heavy duty editing or ghostwriting on my part before it's submitted. We're also making a list of potential references we will list on our applications. They have to write a letter about us too...that's a lot of responsibility given our time constraint! We're planning to contact those folks in the next couple days. If you haven't visited 5 for Hope lately, it was updated yesterday. I took a chance and contacted a very popular, longtime columnist for our city's newspaper...he e-mailed me back 24 hours later and asked for my phone number so we could discuss the website and our fundraising project. If he were to write a column about us, that would be so amazing! I think that this idea could help other families who wish to adopt and I'm trying to figure out if there is something I'm supposed to be learning from this as far as my career objectives are concerned. I'm listening, but so far, transmission of any message is in Morse code and I'm no David Sarnoff.
Enjoy this last day of 2008 and move into 2009 with a renewed sense of purpose. That's what we're planning to do. We have big dreams and goals for 2009, but also big challenges. Don't worry...you can read all about it right here!
Happy New Year!
