Go ahead. Click on the thumbnail. Recognize that majestic landmark? Yep...it's the Washington Monument and that's the view I happened to enjoy as I returned to my hotel from dinner. Particularly lovely, don't you think?
Said goodbye to M2 and Hubs this morning and after an agonizing long wait to purchase coffee at the airport (hey, btw, person-who-butted-in-front-of-me-in-line, I hope only having a single Crown & Coke at 10 a.m. didn't interfere with your muscle relaxers too much and that the table full of friends you bought alcohol for didn't need the air sickness bags), I boarded a VERY tiny plane and headed to DC. Apparently, the city is also playing host to a tire salesman convention this weekend too...very scintillating conversation.
Within 5 minutes of being here, I saw two national landmarks and a celebrity. On the tarmac, I had a lovely view of the Washington Monument and the Capital building. While standing on the sidewalk waiting for the hotel shuttle, I saw Juan Williams from Fox News hop into a taxi cab. I'm glad I wasn't standing any closer than I was or Mr. Williams would have had a goofy "country mouse" story to tell his colleagues this evening.
So far so good and a full slate of activities planned for tomorrow. I'm going to have a nice breakfast and then head out to see some sites. Andi has requested some assistance for conference prep, so I will oblige her, of course! Then, I'm planning to have dinner with two friends I met online eight years ago and have never met in person...we all have kids the same age. I'm planning to be a FReeper tomorrow night outside Walter Reed and THEN on to Fran O'Brien's to eat, drink and make merry.
Stay tuned. Updates as they become available.
