This weekend is flying by so I thought I'd better check in and take care of a few things!
First, A&N...hey ladies!!! Thanks for stopping by the place, offering a shout out as well as some encouraging words. Not sure why BC decided to jump on me with both feet, but he's such a little pot-stirrer over at Boggs' place. I guess he considers it his civic duty to have everyone in his cross-hairs at some point. But, there are three of us nodding in agreement that he's a maroon so we MUST be right!
Second, a few sad endings to ongoing stories I've been following for you. First SPC Robert Hornbeck's body was found this weekend, a victim of an apparent freak accident in which he fell into air-conditioning equipment at the DeSoto Hilton. This ends weeks of speculation after the Iraqi war vet went missing following an Easter weekend night out with a buddy. Another Hilton property is in the news this weekend too. The Capital Hilton refuses to do right by Fran O'Brien's Stadium Steak House and wounded veterans by allowing the lease to truly expire. Other bloggers covering this in-depth and with lots of information include the Greyhawks, FbL and Andi's World. I'm all for capitalism, but I'm not for the business practices in which the Hilton side engaged. From my reading it appears that they actually owe the steakhouse owners thousands of dollars (they ceased paying them for room service meals they were providing sometime last year) and they refused to make upgrades landlords should. Hilton wanted Fran's to make the upgrades...without a signed lease (that would be monumentally stupid) and they claimed the steakhouse was late on its rent when actually, the pub owners told Hilton to use the hotel's accrued tab (from the unpaid room service meals) and pay the rent with that. I'm sure by now the owners, Hal and Marty, feel as if they have been beating their heads against the wall. I'm pretty sure bloggers will do their best to turn it around and make Brian Kelleher and his ilk feel that way very soon, if they aren't already. We will never stay in a Hilton property again. A new goal of mine is to be sure NO ONE does again...at least without thinking of this story.
As we gear up for "I'm Here Illegally Na-na-na-na-na-na!!!" Day, Heidi at Euphoric Reality provides even more background on the underground workforce. It will be interesting, I'm sure, as the media falls over itself to fawn at the feet of the 'freedom fighting' protestors. If we aren't going to uphold our laws, how about we use Mexico's? Mass deportation would be in order, if that were the case. The whole messing with the Star Spangled Banner deal put me way over the edge and I believe, for me, there will be no turning back...so, Minutemen, be looking for a donation from me tomorrow.
Hubs and I are heading downtown for a show tonight. Will update soon!
