Keeping You Posted
If you're doing some reading on your lunch hour, as I am often tempted to do, be sure to check out the following:
Sad news this morning as Dana Reeve, the 44-year-old widow of Christopher Reeve, has passed away from lung cancer leaving behind a 13-year-old son. My heart aches for that boy who lost his father and grandmother relatively closely together and those losses were followed with his mother's announcement that she had cancer.
People are still mulling over the Oscars. I didn't watch much of it at all, but kept flipping back to it to try and catch the leading actress segment. I was lucky enough to land on the station just in time. Reese Witherspoon is a favorite of mine almost more because of who she is offscreen than on so I'm happy she won. Andi offers Ben Stein's take on the Oscars which I LOVE and completely agree with--see if you do too.
UNC at Chapel Hill still reeling after 9 people were injured in the student common area by a lone jihadist in an SUV. Students rallying to make sure this is called what is was--a terrorist attack--as administrators and law enforcement hesitate to do so. I wonder if this will be seen as a "hate crime" as well? Michelle Malkin offers full-scale coverage and frequent updates.
Also found a great collection of information on the Supreme Court's ruling regarding military recruiters having access to campus based on federal funding being sent to those schools in question. Michelle Malkin covers the story with lots of bits from Judge Roberts' opinion which demonstrate not only his intellect, but also his wit.
If you haven't added TF Boggs to your favorite milblog folder yet, you will today. He's begun a series of interviews with fellow soldiers which he will post on his blog for your reading pleasure. The first in his "Who's Fighting for You" series is currently featured on his site.
Michael Yon has another touching dispatch regarding the plight of Iraqi children who need wheelchairs. Tissue alert...the photos made my heart ache.
B5 has been blazing this week. Be sure to check out the updated information on how you can send warm weather clothing to Afghani children, the inspirational and humbling story of Marine SGT John Matter, and Marines who stepped in to help a severely injured Iraqi child.
And you KNOW a week can't go by without us having to mention a certain media hag who pretends she's pimping herself out for her son's sake. SMASH takes yet another swing at HER. Oh, and yesterday, this same person was arrested with three of her coven for trespassing at the US Mission to the United Nations. What you DON'T see mentioned in the coverage of this latest arrest is the official working at the office where SHE wanted to deliver her petition invited her to come in and make her argument and be heard...which I think is what she keeps saying she wants. But, as SHE knew this was for publicity's sake and that she can't possibly form a cogent argument, she politely declined the invitation so she could be taken away by the police. The photo I saw of her looks like a toddler's wet noodle body dance pre-tantrum...the smile on her face reminds me of the over-medicated grins of those who have no semblance of reality and who think their geriatic pants are perfect spots to relieve themselves.
I simply cannot end a post with that mess, however, as I'm growing weary of feeling like I need to talk about it.
To clear our palates yet again, I take you to ESPN.com and the latest artful offering from Michael Jordan. H/T to Uncle Jimbo as this ALSO made me tear up...a lot!
