I'm at my desk, though I had no intention of being in today. Several reasons precipitated my decision--it's sunny and going to be 70 today; I need a mental health day; Hubs is winging his way home this evening and the house could use a once over and oh, yeah! My favorite reason: 10 years of here earlier and gone later than anyone else earns you a day off once in awhile. Alas, a student needs to see me in an hour, so I'm here looking mighty scruffy...it's CLEANING DAY, remember?
I won't leave you in a lurch, however! Here is what has caught my eye and I KNOW you'll enjoy!
Jill Carroll, held captive in Iraq since January 7th, has been released. The Right Wing News posts the answers to frequently asked questions (FAQ) about illegal immigration. H/T to Junkyard Blog for the links.
Andi has a post about the shameless antics of the anti-war crowds and their mouthpiece Al Jazeera which focus on our troops, PTSD and mental health. Not shocking, but still sickening.
A big week for Some Soldiers' Mom's son, Noah. He celebrated his 21st birthday AND he'll be presented with his Purple Heart today. Unfortunately, the Army in its infinite wisdom (infernal incompetence??) announced the ceremony with less than 24 hours notice so Noah's family won't make it in person. And, a too-close-for-comfort job accident for SSM's other son has her counting her blessings as well.
Please pray for Nora. I've been following her blog for a few weeks, even reading back through her archives. She and her family were all set to adopt a baby girl...she's posted photos of the nursery, the drawers full of tiny undershirts and socks, the closet full of tiny girly things. And, after all that, the birth mother changed her mind. She took the baby back and then, while considering her decision, had the baby placed into foster care. When the time came to sign the papers, the young girl backed out of her original adoption plan. I cannot imagine, but trying to imagine is still awful in itself.
