What a good evening at work it must have been for the Capitol police officers lucky enough to be on duty to remove Cindy Sheehan from the gallery, detain and then arrest her prior to the State of the Union address. Apparently, Rep. Lynn Woolsey from Califronia (where the hell else?) thought it would be fun to provide an invitation to possibly the person at the top of the list for deserving a ticket to a mental institution rather than a formal speech. It's like the Democratic Party is a family with a crazy aunt who thought it a great idea to invite her & see how long it would take her to strip, curse, or cause a scene at a formal family function. Disgraceful.
And, instead of recognizing the value of this "golden ticket" and using the opportunity to sit quietly in the gallery and up Dick Cheney's heart rate and perhaps make "W" wish he didn't have such great vision, she's ejected from the game before the opening pitch. What a moron.
Yep...tack on another charge to her criminal record. Apparently, Cindy thought there would be tailgating prior to the speech and she brought along her
homemade banner (see update below) made from a crusty old bed sheet and poster paints provided by Code Pink. I can't say 100% that was how the banner was constructed, but it was described as a "banner". It could have easily been commemorative t-shirts from her visit with Venezuelan "President" Hugo Chavez last week. Perhaps her latest stunt will earn her a well-deserved, three day respite at the nutter house.
The President is doing a fine job in his speech, demonstrating yet again his ability to be both serious and resolute as well as engaging and good-humored. It's good to see our newly minted, 110th Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito in attendance as well as fine examples of America's men and women in uniform and their families.
Just couldn't resist posting about the disruption that wasn't.
As you were...
UPDATE: What was at first thought to be a banner causing concern was actually the predictable anti-war t-shirt.
For anyone lamenting Cindy's arrest, let's take a look at the honest and very rational truth:
By any law enforcement definition (and more than likely most medical definitions), Cindy Sheehan is mentally ill. She cannot be trusted anywhere around the leader of the free world or even polite company. She, and those propping her up, do not understand that there are times and places for everything. The State of the Union address isn't about Cindy Sheehan. Oh, and by the way, to the folks propping Cindy up (Code Pink, specifically), there isn't an appropriate time to donate money to fund 'freedom fighters' who, to the thinking in this world, are actually terrorists, politely called insurgents, charged with killing our troops including Casey Sheehan.
The very fact that Cindy Sheehan thinks she (as her behavior has had NOTHING to do with her son for a VERY long time, if ever) is more important than everything from other families with someone in harm's way to matters of state of our nation supports the evidence of her complete loss of her bearings.
I, for one, am glad that she was trucked off to jail. Freedom comes with responsibility and it certainly doesn't entitle someone to do whatever the hell she wants whenever the hell she wants. Sorry...I barely tolerate that attitude from my egocentric two-and-a-half-year-old so the idea of adults looking at other adults and saying that this woman somehow earned the right to be a nutter anywhere and anytime is laughable. On the other hand, she CAN do whatever she wants, but let's not whine and moan when she has to face the consequences of her actions.
